All daemons are able to phase in and out of the ethereal realm where they are immune to most attacks, Conflagration is one of the few spells that is able to hit ethereal monsters. You can also use Corporealize to force them into the corporeal realm where you are able to hit them. When daemons are ethereal they will usually just move around before becoming corporeal again and attacking, but sometimes they will attack you while they are ethereal so beware
